Apple is reportedly cutting back on Samsung's involvement in its chips.
Apple Inc. is reducing Samsung Electronics Co. Ltd.'s involvement in its business by solely using the company to manufacture its chips.
According to TechCrunch, the Korea Times is reporting that Samsung will no longer be involved in the design side of Apple's chip production. But production of the A6 chip in the iPhone 5, according to TechCrunch, will be more profitable for Samsung than previous versions.
In 2011, Cupertino-based Apple (NASDAQ: AAPL) purchased $17.8 billion in components from Samsung, according to TechCrunch. Apple also reportedly hired Samsung chip designer Jim Mergard last week.
